RYERSON UNIVERSITY
A TRIBE CALLED RED CONCERT
THE STORY
This year, Ryerson University hosted the 2017 Congress of Humanities and Social Sciences, which brings together leading thinkers, academics, researchers, policy-makers and innovators to explore some of the world’s most challenging issues. Congress celebrates the vitality and quality of Canadian research contributions, and helps train the next generation of Canadian ideas leadership.
The theme, The Next 150, on Indigenous Lands, celebrated the history, legacy and achievements of the peoples and territories that make us who we are, and anticipates the boundless opportunities of the future.
hala inc. was tasked with managing the production of the event’s closing concert, performed by Ottawa’s own A Tribe Called Red. The Juno-nominated group blended instrumental hip hop, reggae, moombahton and dubstep-influenced dance music with elements of First Nations music, all while promoting aboriginal human rights.
The diverse crowd enjoyed the music, the dancing and, most importantly, the message.
