ONTARIO SCIENCE CENTRE’S RBC INNOVATORS’ BALL
THE STORY
The Ontario Science Centre’s RBC Innovators’ Ball is the foremost fundraising event supporting curiosity, innovation and science learning in Canada. It celebrates science and curiosity by bringing together creative minds and key influencers to share ideas, inspire new perspectives and reshape our idea of what is possible. Funds raised through the annual RBC Innovators’ Ball support the Science Centre and its vital community access programs, which help ensure that the benefits of a Science Centre visit are affordable and accessible to all members of our community.
The high-profile gala attracts 500 of Toronto’s corporate leaders, and is one of Toronto’s must attend events of the year. It includes a cocktail reception, exceptional cuisine and thought-provoking Ted Talk type innovation presentations on the future of science and the role it plays in our everyday life.
This year’s event was inspired by fractals which can be described as repeating abstract patterns. Fractal imagery was integrated into the décor and production elements of the event. Highlights of the ball included using holographic technology and imagery for the Innovator presentations, a robot that welcomed guests as they arrived, a photo opportunity using the famous Van de Graaff machine; as well as innovative sponsor activations from RBC, Telus and Air Canada. To officially announce the Ontario Science Centre’s 50th anniversary in 2019, the board chair appeared as a human hologram to deliver her remarks, as she could not be in attendance.
The gala was the most successful to date raising a record $767,000 net.
